Know Heart Attack Warning Signs

By heeding the warning signs of a heart attack and getting to an accredited Chest Pain Center as quickly as possible, you can increase the odds that you, or someone you know, will survive a heart attack. Here are the warning signs of a heart attack as recognized by the American Heart Association:

  • Uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain in the center of the chest. Typically, it lasts more than a few minutes, or goes away and comes back.
  • Pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.
  • Shortness of breath with or without chest discomfort.
  • Breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea/vomiting or lightheadedness

If you or anyone you know experiences chest pain, dial 9-1-1 for help immediately. Don’t drive to the Emergency Room. Providence is in constant communication with the ambulance crew and receives the patient’s heart tracings while they are en route to the hospital.
