She joins the organization with more than a decade of improving the human experience in the healthcare setting for patients, their loved ones, staff and providers. She has worked in various roles throughout healthcare for approximately 25 years. She is also a Veteran of the United States Air Force. Danie recently joins us from the Pacific Northwest in upper Washington state, where she had a similar role. She has led multiple organizations, such as Skagit Regional Health, in improving the human experience in multiple settings: hospitals, emergency departments, ambulatory care, urgent cares, medical practice, and cancer care centers. Danie has an undergraduate in History from University of Maryland, University College and Masters in Christian Studies with emphasis in Leadership Development. Her most prized training comes from the Institute of Healthcare Improvement (IHI) Professional Development Program where she was trained as an Improvement Advisor. Danie is also a licensed brain health coach and trainer and is passionate about helping others learn about the power of healing their brains. For her, mental health is brain health and when you change your brain health, you can change your life. “Getting to know the leaders and team members of the four MOKAN Region hospitals has been a true pleasure,” she said. “I am grateful to be part of the elevation of the human experience for this region; I couldn’t ask for better people to improve with!” “When the human experience is elevated for all members of the healthcare team, then we can effectively decrease inherent and the avoidable suffering in the patient experience. And we do that with compassionate connected care.” Her outside passions include making memories with family, friends, and “fur babies” (German Shepard, Rottweiler, and three cats), enjoying nature, paddle boarding and kayaking, brain health, studying the Bible, and tea.

- [Joint Center Pain Relief](https://providencekc.com/joint-center-pain-relief/): The Providence Joint Center staff, medical director, and the hospital’s pharmacy, created a protocol and began using this method of pain management for joint replacement patients. Initially, the Joint Center used this method for elective knee and hip replacement. Later, it was initiated for use in shoulder replacements and specific forms of hip fracture repairs.

Whatever noise it is, the real issue is something called tinnitus. Tinnitus ("TIN-a-tus" or "Tin-EYEtus") is the medical term for the sensation of hearing sound in your ears or head when no external sound is present. The important thing to know is that tinnitus is not a condition or a disease. Instead, it's a symptom — typically of something bigger, like an ear infection, high blood pressure or, most common, hearing loss. It's also important to know that everyone's tinnitus is different, which is why finding relief has been so elusive.

The tools of radiology —computerized digital X-ray, computerized axial tomography (CAT) scanners and ultrasound — allow doctors to look inside your body.
- [X-ray](https://providencekc.com/x-ray/): X-ray imaging (radiography) is still the most commonly used technique in radiology. To make a radiograph, a part of the body is exposed to a very small quantity of X-rays. The X-rays pass through the tissues, striking a film to create an image. X-rays are safe when properly used by radiologists and technologists specially trained to minimize exposure. No radiation remains after the radiograph is obtained.
- [Ultrasound](https://providencekc.com/ultrasound/): Ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging method that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of structures within the body. The high-frequency sound waves are concentrated into a thin beam and directed into the body with a transducer, which is a small hand-held wand that the technologist uses to perform the examination. The sound waves reflect off internal structures, and the returning echoes are received by the transducer and then processed by a computer to produce real-time moving images. Ultrasound is commonly used to evaluate the abdominal and pelvic organs, breasts, thyroid gland, and testes, as well as blood flow in arteries and veins.
- [MRI](https://providencekc.com/mri/): Magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI, uses a strong magnet and radio waves to provide clear and detailed diagnostic images of internal body organs, tissues, and structures. MRI is a valuable tool for the diagnosis of a broad range of conditions, including:
- [Fluoroscopy](https://providencekc.com/providence-imaging-center/fluoroscopy/): Fluoroscopy is a form of diagnostic radiology that enables the radiologist, with the aid of a contrast agent, to visualize the organ or area of concern via x-ray. This contrast agent allows the image to be viewed clearly on a television monitor or screen. Contrast agents (or "contrast media" as they are also known) may be introduced into the body through injection, swallowing or an enema.
- [Dexa-Bone Density](https://providencekc.com/dexa-bone-density/): Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) examinations estimate the amount of bone mineral content in specific areas of your body. DEXA exams measure the amount of x-rays that are absorbed by the bones in your body. Two x-ray energies allow the radiologist to tell the difference between bone and soft tissue, giving a very accurate estimation of bone density. Often confused with a nuclear medicine bone scan, a bone density scan is faster and does not require a radionuclide injection.

The greater the amount of calcium, the greater your score and the greater your risk for a cardiac event.

- [Digital Mammography](https://providencekc.com/digital-mammography/): Digital Mammography uses computers and specially designed digital detectors to produce an image that can be displayed on a high-resolution computer monitor and transmitted and stored just like a computer file. The key role of mammography is in identifying a site of breast cancer early in its development when it is very small and often a year or two before it is large enough to be felt as a lump. These small cancers have a much better response to treatment and often require much less surgical or drug treatment. Mammography detects approximately 2-3 times as many "early" breast cancers as physical examination, and is the best method for screening for breast cancer.

- [Peripheral Artery Disease](https://providencekc.com/our-services/peripheral-artery-disease/): Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) occurs when the peripheral arteries narrow or are blocked by plaque, or atherosclerosis. Most commonly, PAD involves the leg arteries. Though PAD affects about 10 million people in the United States, many people don't know they have the disease. That's because in its early stages, PAD may not cause any symptoms or unusual symptoms and it goes unrecognized. Later in the disease, PAD can lead to cramping, leg pain, and even the loss of a leg or increased risk for heart disease or carotid artery disease.

About 550,000 new cases of CHF are diagnosed in the United States every year. Of these, about half will die from this condition within five years of diagnosis.

CVICU is for patients who have undergone cardiac surgery.
