Initially, the Joint Center used this method for elective knee and hip replacement. Later, it was initiated for use in shoulder replacements and specific forms of hip fracture repairs. - [Ringing in the Ears](https://providencekc.com/ringing-in-the-ears/): Maybe it's not ringing exactly. Some people describe it as hissing, buzzing, whistling, roaring and even chirping. Whatever noise it is, the real issue is something called tinnitus. Tinnitus ("TIN-a-tus" or "Tin-EYEtus") is the medical term for the sensation of hearing sound in your ears or head when no external sound is present. The important thing to know is that tinnitus is not a condition or a disease. Instead, it's a symptom — typically of something bigger, like an ear infection, high blood pressure or, most common, hearing loss. It's also important to know that everyone's tinnitus is different, which is why finding relief has been so elusive. - [Rehabilitation Services](https://providencekc.com/our-services/rehabilitation-services/): Whether you were injured over a weekend game of football, have had a stroke or have had knee replacement surgery, getting you back to your optimal level of functioning quickly and efficiently is the Number 1 priority of the Providence Rehabilitation Services department. - [Outpatient Rehab](https://providencekc.com/outpatient-rehab/): Whether you were injured over a weekend game of football or have had a knee or hip replacement, getting you back to your optimal functioning quickly and efficiently is the Number 1 priority of the Providence Rehabilitation Services department. - [Meet Our Orthopedic Surgeons](https://providencekc.com/meet-our-orthopedic-surgeons/): Adult Reconstruction FellowshipSports Medicine FellowshipShoulder & Elbow Surgery Fellowship - [Joint Care](https://providencekc.com/our-services/orthopedics/joint-center-services/): Our Joint Care staff coordinates services such as those provided by orthopedic surgeons, nurses, dietitians, rehabilitation therapists, a case manager, and a chaplain at one location. - [PET Scanner](https://providencekc.com/pet-scanner/): For more information about the PET scanner talk to your physician or call the Providence Radiology department at 913-667-5600 - [Nuclear Medicine](https://providencekc.com/nuclear-medicine/): Nuclear Medicine is a painless and cost-effective tool to provide information about your medical condition that might otherwise require surgery or more invasive diagnostic testing. - [Providence Campus Imaging](https://providencekc.com/providence-campus-imaging/): Radiology is the literally the study of images of the human body. The tools of radiology —computerized digital X-ray, computerized axial tomography (CAT) scanners and ultrasound — allow doctors to look inside your body. - [X-ray](https://providencekc.com/x-ray/): X-ray imaging (radiography) is still the most commonly used technique in radiology. To make a radiograph, a part of the body is exposed to a very small quantity of X-rays. The X-rays pass through the tissues, striking a film to create an image. X-rays are safe when properly used by radiologists and technologists specially trained to minimize exposure. No radiation remains after the radiograph is obtained. - [Ultrasound](https://providencekc.com/ultrasound/): Ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging method that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of structures within the body. The high-frequency sound waves are concentrated into a thin beam and directed into the body with a transducer, which is a small hand-held wand that the technologist uses to perform the examination. The sound waves reflect off internal structures, and the returning echoes are received by the transducer and then processed by a computer to produce real-time moving images. Ultrasound is commonly used to evaluate the abdominal and pelvic organs, breasts, thyroid gland, and testes, as well as blood flow in arteries and veins. - [MRI](https://providencekc.com/mri/): Magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI, uses a strong magnet and radio waves to provide clear and detailed diagnostic images of internal body organs, tissues, and structures. MRI is a valuable tool for the diagnosis of a broad range of conditions, including: - [Fluoroscopy](https://providencekc.com/providence-imaging-center/fluoroscopy/): Fluoroscopy is a form of diagnostic radiology that enables the radiologist, with the aid of a contrast agent, to visualize the organ or area of concern via x-ray. This contrast agent allows the image to be viewed clearly on a television monitor or screen. Contrast agents (or "contrast media" as they are also known) may be introduced into the body through injection, swallowing or an enema. - [Dexa-Bone Density](https://providencekc.com/dexa-bone-density/): Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) examinations estimate the amount of bone mineral content in specific areas of your body. DEXA exams measure the amount of x-rays that are absorbed by the bones in your body. Two x-ray energies allow the radiologist to tell the difference between bone and soft tissue, giving a very accurate estimation of bone density. Often confused with a nuclear medicine bone scan, a bone density scan is faster and does not require a radionuclide injection. - [Coronary Calcium Scoring](https://providencekc.com/coronary-calcium-scoring/): Coronary Calcium Scoring is a fast, easy, non-invasive CT exam used to detect the amount of calcium in your coronary arteries. The greater the amount of calcium, the greater your score and the greater your risk for a cardiac event. - [Providence Medical Imaging Center](https://providencekc.com/providence-imaging-center/): 11011 Haskell Ave, Kansas City, KS 66109We offer a wide range of radiology/imaging services at a convenient location. Radiology is the study of images of the human body. The radiology tools —computerized digital X-ray, computerized axial tomography (CAT) scanners, and ultrasound — allow doctors to look inside your body. - [Digital Mammography](https://providencekc.com/digital-mammography/): Digital Mammography uses computers and specially designed digital detectors to produce an image that can be displayed on a high-resolution computer monitor and transmitted and stored just like a computer file. The key role of mammography is in identifying a site of breast cancer early in its development when it is very small and often a year or two before it is large enough to be felt as a lump. These small cancers have a much better response to treatment and often require much less surgical or drug treatment. Mammography detects approximately 2-3 times as many "early" breast cancers as physical examination, and is the best method for screening for breast cancer. - [Leg Health Check](https://providencekc.com/heart-and-vascular/vein-disease/leg-health-check/): It is estimated that venous disease affects 25 million Americans, both men and women, of all ages. Here’s what to look for: - [Vein Disease](https://providencekc.com/heart-and-vascular/vein-disease/): More than 25 million adult Americans have some type of varicose veins. For some of these people, their veins may be masking a serious condition called venous reflux disease. If untreated, venous reflux can cause vein valve damage, chronic wound issues and ulceration, adversely impacting a person's quality of life. Leg Health Checks are available. - [Know Your Numbers](https://providencekc.com/heart-and-vascular/know-your-numbers/): Do you know what YOUR numbers are? - [GWTG Platinum Award](https://providencekc.com/heart-and-vascular/gwtg-platinum-award/): Providence has received the American College of Cardiology Foundation's NCDR ACTION Registry–GWTG Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2015 – the award recognizes Providence's commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients, and signifies that Providence has reached an aggressive goal of treating these patients to standard levels of care as outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations. - [Peripheral Artery Disease](https://providencekc.com/our-services/peripheral-artery-disease/): Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) occurs when the peripheral arteries narrow or are blocked by plaque, or atherosclerosis. Most commonly, PAD involves the leg arteries. Though PAD affects about 10 million people in the United States, many people don't know they have the disease. That's because in its early stages, PAD may not cause any symptoms or unusual symptoms and it goes unrecognized. Later in the disease, PAD can lead to cramping, leg pain, and even the loss of a leg or increased risk for heart disease or carotid artery disease. - [Congestive Heart Failure](https://providencekc.com/congestive-heart-failure/): Congestive heart failure (CHF) is implicated in about 250,000 deaths each year, either as the primary cause or a contributing factor. About 550,000 new cases of CHF are diagnosed in the United States every year. Of these, about half will die from this condition within five years of diagnosis. - [Chest Pain Center Accreditation](https://providencekc.com/our-services/chest-pain-center-accreditation/): A heart attack can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. That’s why it’s important to be prepared. Know the warning signs of a heart attack and call 9-1-1 if you, or anyone you know, is experiencing chest pain. - [CVICU](https://providencekc.com/heart-and-vascular/cvicu/): With a long history of providing cardiac care to Wyandotte and Leavenworth counties, and a commitment to enhance the level of cardiac care provided, Providence opened the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) and Cardiac Vascular Care Unit (CVC) after a recent renovation and has been pleased with the patient outcomes. CVICU is for patients who have undergone cardiac surgery. - [Vascular Screenings](https://providencekc.com/our-services/vascular-screenings/): Symptoms of PAD include discomfort in your legs when you walk, pain in your feet at night, or difficulty to heal sores on your feet, particularly if you have diabetes. Individuals with PAD have five times the risk of a heart attack or stroke and three times the likelihood of death. - [Non-Invasive Services](https://providencekc.com/our-services/non-invasive-services/): Identifying your problem is the first step toward correcting it.
