Tamala (Tami) A. Shields has been appointed the new Director of Risk Management and Patient Safety at Providence Medical Center and Saint John Hospital.

With more than 25 years of experience in clinical risk management, patient safety, quality, and nursing, Shields brings a wealth of expertise to the role. Her career has focused on patient safety, quality assurance, healthcare policy, and bioethics, with an emphasis on developing proactive, evidence-based clinical risk solutions.

Previously, Tami served as Vice President at Clinical Risk Solutions, Inc., where she implemented patient safety, risk, and quality programs utilizing national and international evidence-based initiative. Her other past roles include providing ongoing consultative services to several of the largest national healthcare systems in including Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health System, Heartland/Mosaic Life Care System and Director at Health ONE HCA in Denver, Colorado. She has also held various leadership positions in safety, regulatory compliance, environmental health, and clinical nursing.

Shields holds an M.A. in Bioethics and Healthcare Policy from Loyola University Chicago, a B.A. in Healthcare Management and Policy from Ottawa University, and an Associate of Science in Nursing from Johnson County Community College.
