Kansas City, KS — June 25, 2025 — Providence Medical Center is proud to announce the donation of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to Linwood Baptist Church, a valued community partner located approximately 30 minutes away from the nearest hospital. This donation reflects Providence’s ongoing commitment to improving community health and safety through outreach and collaboration.
The AED, a portable device used to assist individuals experiencing sudden cardiac arrest, will be available on-site at Linwood Baptist Church to support its congregation, visitors, and community members during services, events, and community gatherings.

“This donation is about more than equipment—it’s about empowering our neighbors with the tools they need to respond in a moment of crisis,” said Karen Orr, RN, MSN, MBA, Chief Executive Officer at Providence Medical Center. “We’re honored to support Linwood Baptist Church and the vital role it plays in the community.”

Church leaders expressed gratitude for the donation, emphasizing the importance of preparedness and the value of partnerships that prioritize public health.

“We are incredibly thankful to Providence for this generous gift,” said Jim Forge, Elder of Linwood Baptist Church. “Having an AED provides safety, comfort, and care, knowing this is accessible to our community. This is near and dear to me as yesterday marked my 5th anniversary of having a widowmaker heart attack . An AED restarted my heart.”

“We appreciate the partnership and value Karen and the Providence staff,” said Howie Lucas, Pastor at Linwood Baptist Church. “We cannot do this alone. It takes everybody to advance community care, and we have a big mission to reach our small community in Linwood.”

This initiative is part of Providence’s broader mission to extend care beyond hospital walls and into the communities it serves. The hospital, nationally recognized for excellence in cardiac care and patient safety, continues to invest in programs that promote health equity, emergency preparedness, and community resilience.
