Spiritual Care

We are pleased to be of service to those of all faiths. We can send a chaplain or suggest prayers and rituals. If we cannot meet your needs, we will make an effort to contact your faith leader or find someone who shares your faith traditions.

We are here to coordinate the spiritual needs of our patients and their families. In the tradition of the Catholic Church, we value human life and promote the health of the whole person. We believe spiritual care is an integral part of the healing process and that God’s healing love is made present through us.

Prayer and faith can help you cope with pain, find comfort in times of trouble and come to terms with your illness. If you are worried about surgery, dealing with a long-term illness, having a hard time communicating with your family or just want someone to listen, the Providence Saint John Spiritual Care team can help.

Spiritual Care Services

The Sacraments of Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick and Eucharist are routinely available for Catholic patients. We celebrate the Liturgy of the Eucharist on Thursdays and Fridays at 11:30 a.m. and on Sundays at 1:30 p.m.

For those of other faiths, you can make arrangements by calling the Spiritual Care office at 913-596-4300.

The chapel is located at the northeast area of the main lobby (second floor) It is open to people of all faiths for personal medication and prayer.

Morning Prayer

Thank you God for another day of life. Please take the uncertainty of today and hold it in the certainty of your care. For pleasures, I thank you; in my suffering, I thank you that I am not alone. May hope be ever in my heart, and your name be ever on my lips. Amen.

Evening Prayer

Oh God, my shelter and my resting place, surround me as I close my eyes to sleep. Even in the dark of the night, may your love light my soul. In the morning, when I awake refreshed and renewed, may I feel your healing power. I close my eyes in confident sleep. Amen.

Our Father

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom some; they will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us other trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
